PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT: “Gideon Mendel: Drowning World” runs from Sept. 1 to Dec. 9 at the MOCA, Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Jacksonville. A public reception will be held Aug. 30 from 8-9 p.m. and the artist will be in attendance. The exhibit features photographs of Clay County residents whose homes were destroyed by the flooding on Black Creek during Hurricane Irma.

NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY: Celebrate at Camp Chowenwaw, 1517 Ball Rd., Green Cove Springs, Sept. 22. Volunteers needed to help remove invasive plants from the park’s forests from 9 a.m.-Noon. No experience; must be able to work outdoors for a few hours. Those under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone. Trash bags and hand tools will be provided, and restrooms and drinking water are available at the park. Along with a packed lunch, volunteers should bring long pants, sturdy closed-toe shoes, refillable water bottles, work gloves and anything needed for their comfort while working outdoors. CHARITY RUN: The 6th Annual BASCA 5K Run, Walk & Roll, Sept. 22 at 8:30 a.m. Includes a 1-Mile Fun Run and 5K; begins and ends at BASCA HQ, 352 Stowe Ave., Orange Park.
