OPPD: 2nd degree arson charge
ORANGE PARK – A Jacksonville man was arrested Monday, March 6 after attempting to light a car on fire and driving without a license.
The Orange Park Police Department said Stephan Karel West, 27, was at the house of his children’s grandmother when an argument between him and his children’s mother took place. Police said West the grandmother asked him to leave.
Later, Orange Park Police were given notice by a caller who asked to remain anonymous that they had seen a man pouring liquid on a car while attempting to light it on fire. As police approached the scene, they saw a small silver car leaving the area. It was later identified by police that West was the driver of this car.
One officer remained on the scene who identified the liquid poured onto the car as lighter fluid. Another officer pulled West over and detained him for further questioning.
The anonymous caller identified West as the man she had seen pouring liquid on the vehicle in question and the victim identified the vehicle in question as her own. During questioning, police learned that West has no driver’s license.
West was arrested on charges of attempted second degree arson and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. He is currently in the Clay County Jail with a bond amount set at $102,505.

Inmate charged with child abuse
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A Clay County woman is facing felony child abuse charges in addition to previous domestic battery charges after allegedly slamming a girl’s face into the door of a pickup truck and then scratching her face.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Racheal Melissa Shuman, 25, on March 2 for domestic battery. During a follow-up investigation the following day, testimony was given by a child who was at the same location as Shuman during the original assault that Shuman had also assaulted her. The victim told police that Shuman grabbed the child’s hair and slammed her face into a vehicle, which caused a black eye, then scratched the girl’s face after she tried to escape.
Deputies returned to the Clay County Jail, where Shuman was detained, and charged her with felony child abuse. For both charges she is being held on a $10,750 bond, her court date is set for March 13.

Convicted felon assaults man, steals firearm
MIDDLEBURG – A Middleburg man faces four felony charges for armed robbery, assault, and grand theft after allegedly breaking into a man’s home with a baseball bat in late January.
A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT team arrested Adrian Dereck Latner, 45, in Jacksonville Beach on a warrant signed on Feb. 27 in Clay County. Latner and another man allegedly broke into a home in late January armed with baseball bats. After the men assaulted the homeowner, Latner allegedly stole a rifle from the home, as well as a license plate from the victim’s vehicle after smashing the victim’s windows and slashing the tires.
After Latner’s arrest he was transported to the Clay County Jail for booking. Latner faces felony charges for armed robbery, aggravated battery, grand theft of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He remains in Clay County Jail with no option for bond, as required by the warrant.

Woman faces felony after attacking elderly parents
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A Green Cove Springs woman faces a felony assault charge after attacking allegedly her parents, who are both over 65 years old and disabled.
Green Cove Springs Police arrested Sara Amanda Davidson, 23, at the home she shares with her parents. Davidson, who had been drinking according to the victims, attacked her mother after being refused use of the victim’s car.
Police said Davidson pushed her mother over, with Davidson’s father catching his wife before she fell to the floor. Davidson then retreated to the living room where she was followed by her father.
Upon entering the living room her father picked up Davidson’s child who was sitting on the floor. Davidson took back the child, placing it back onto the floor, and proceeded to attack her father, shoving him into a freezer and scratching his face with her fingernails.
Following her arrest, Davidson was transported to Clay County Jail and faces two felony charges of battery on a person 65 years old or older. Neither victim chose to prosecute.
