Patricia “Pat” J. Garland

Patricia “Pat” J. Garland, 70, went home to our Lord on July 19, 2016, after complications associated with heart surgery. Her loving family was present, along with the wonderful caretakers at Forsyth Hospital. Born on July 24, 1945, in Mendota, IL, to the late John and Helen Jones and remembered by her brother Bob Jones, she was the beloved wife of Stanley Garland for nearly 50 years.

Pat grew up in a Midwest farming town, and although rarely displayed such a childhood from the outside, amazed family and friends with endless stories about her country roots and upbringing. After graduating Amboy High School (’63), she left rural America behind by becoming a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines originating out of Washington, DC. It was through this experience she met Stan and relocated to his hometown in Asheville/Black Mountain, NC (‘67) to help run the family business. They ventured to Orange Park, FL, in 1976 where over the next 37 years she worked several jobs and volunteered within their church family, serving most remarkably as a Stephen Minister to those in need. Her wonderfully loving spirit and infectious personality was evidenced once again by the countless lives she touched since their retirement to Winston Salem in 2013.

Pat will forever be remembered as a devoted mother and role model to her four daughters Missy, Whitney, Kelly and Kim, sons-in-laws Tim, Jay, Erik and Jeff, and 13 grandchildren Matt, Josh, Reid, Abby, Grace, Emma, Kaitlyn, Evan, Molly, Ashley, Lindsey, Mason and Ryan. She also leaves behind an astounding network of friends who, like her family, are blessed to have had Pat in their lives. Much like a favorite verse written in the front of her bible (1 Peter, 1:25), her legacy, like the word of the Lord, will stand forever.

Memorial Service Saturday, Aug 6th at 4pm at High Point Community Church, 84 Knight Boxx Rd., Orange Park, FL 32065.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in honor of Pat Garland to: Stephen Ministries, 2045 Innerbelt Business Center Drive, St. Louis, MO 63114 (314) 428-2600

David “Andy” Anfinson

On the beautiful, sunny afternoon of July 23, David “Andy” Anfinson passed away peacefully in his home and was finally able to join his wife, Cindy, in heaven. Andy enjoyed an eventful 74 years.

Andy was born on February 27, 1942 in Fargo, North Dakota, to Mayme and Raymond Anfinson. He was born into a large family as the 2nd of ten children. He was a student of Warren Alvarado Oslo, class of 1960.

Those who knew him best are not surprised to hear that he was an exceptionally feisty young man who at the age of 17, was compelled to claim his independence by joining the U.S. Navy where he worked in aviation. After an illustrious career beginning in Warren, Minnesota and ending Jacksonville, Florida, he retired after an impressive 33 years of combined service.

Fishing was Andy’s longest love affair. In his prime, he spent long, happy hours throwing out a line in the St. John’s River with his friend, Mike McNeil. Happily, he brought home many, many prize-winning bass who were, much to Chad’s dismay, the unfortunate guests of the dinner table. It is Andy’s sincere pleasure to share a final fish fry with his friends and loved ones in celebration of his life.
