Lt. Col. Paul Andrew James Bue
Lt. Col. Paul Andrew James Bue, U.S. Army (retired), age 82, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2016 in Green Cove Springs, Florida. He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and graduated from Boston University before joining the US Army in 1956. He served 2 tours of duty in Viet Nam and retired after 22 years of active duty.
Following his military career, he moved the family to Thomson, Ga. where they purchased an old pre-civil war era house with 10 acres of pastureland for horses, goats, and chickens. Paul placed his military experience to good use and coordinated the McDuffie County Volunteer Fire and Emergency Response Teams for several years. Leaving Thomson after 25 years to seek warmer weather, Paul and wife Sandra moved to Penney Retirement Community (PRC). While at PRC, Paul was on the Town Council for 15 years and served 3 years as the Mayor of Penney Farms. He worked to obtain designated scenic highway protection for Highway 16 and worked with the planning commission for Clay County to manage city infrastructure to meet the needs of a growing community.
Paul enjoyed reading, dining and cooking, taking care of his animals, watching the backyard birds, and traveling to visit with family members. As a long-time supporter of the Humane Society, he was well known by all canine members of the PRC community for the ready supply of dog treats he kept in his golf cart.
Paul is survived by his wife Sandra, three happily married children, James Bue and daughter in law, Bonnie; Juliana Bue-Valleskey and son-in-law Daniel; and Jennifer Terwindt and son-in law Stefan, and seven grandchildren Jaime, Andrew James (AJ), Benjamin, Nicolas, Emelia, Alexander, and Sebastian.
No visitation is planned; however, a Memorial Service at PRC will be held at 3 PM on December 10, 2016 in the Penney Memorial Church, Penney Farms, Florida. Following the service there will be a rendering of Military Funeral Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to PRC Resident’s Aid Fund, PO Box 555, Penney Farms, Florida, 32079. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.broadusraines.com.
