BARTRAM TRAIL – A second school record in two weeks and Fleming Island High junior trackster Andrew Miller is starting to rewrite the book on fast running at Fleming Island High School.

“Andrew Miller already owns the 5k and 3200 meter records and after clocking a time of 4:29.27 he can add the 1600 meters to that list as well!’ said Fleming Island coach Karen Moritz

Miller, with teammate Evan Fuller playing wingman in the elite mile race at the Bartram Trail Bears Classic on a bristly cold night at Bartram Trail High School, cooled his jets to a new personal best from his previous of 4:36, set a week ago at Flagler Palm Coast. Miller finihsed in 18th at 4:40.37 with Orange Park sophomore John Bear at 20th in 4:41.91.

Up front, Trinity Christian of Georgia’s Jacob McLeod blasted a 4:14.84 with a final stretch run to outlast Michael Phillips of Tallahassee Chiles.

In the team standings, Creekside’s girls won with 111 points over Atlantic Coast’s 106 with Fleming Island fourth at 54, Middleburg 10th and Ridgeview 12.

For the boys, Bartram Trail was top team at 148 ahead of Ocala Vanguard’s 80. Ridgeview finished fifth, Fleming Island sixth, Orange Park 11th and Middleburg 13th.

Other top performers were Shawn Bizzell of Orange Park with a third place 47’-01” shot put behind Chiles’ James Hansen’s 50’-.50”.

Middleburg’s Paige Novatasky won the girl’s discus with a toss of 94’-2” with teammate Dakota Peppard finishing fourth at 85’-7”.

In the boys triple jump Ridgeview’s Devon Fertil won at 43’-10” with teammate Jacolbi Sampson third at 42’-9”.

In the high jump, Orange Park’s John Abate took second in 5’-8.75” with the winning height 6’-2.75”.

In the sprints, Fleming Island’s Anfernee McCaskill clocked an 11.26 in prelims, but did not run the final for a sore hamstring on the cold night. McCaskill took third in the 200 in 22.88 after clocking the top prelim time in 22.67.

In the girls 200, Fleming Island’s Ashley Nelson finished fourth in 27.09. Cara Simpson of Atlantic Coast won in 25.56. Middleburg’s Kaley Petrosky was eighth in 28.11.

In the 400, Fleming Island’s Spencer Shaw powered to a 51.00 winning time just half second ahead of Devin Frederickson of Creekside’s 51.51 split. Teammate Cameron Dill ran 53.33 for sixth.

In the 3200, John Bear of Orange Park took second in 10:15.58 just half second off William Porter of St. Augustine. Fleming Island’s Gage West clocked 10:17.76.

In the hurdles, Orange Park’s Katie Berlin was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 17.74 with Ridgeview’s Trenity Gilford ninth in 18.54. Ridgeview’s Glenn Rodgers took sixth in the 110 hurdles in 16.47 with Fleming Island’s Luc Larseon eighth. Larson was third in the 300 hurdles with Rodgers 12th.

At the Bolles Bulldog track invitational, also on Friday, Clay High’s Oliver West clocked a 2:01.10 800 split for fourth place behind winner Amir Warren of Paxon’s 1:58.14 winning split. Ben Hathaway clocked a 10th place 4:38.73 in the 1600, won in 4:20.68.
