ORANGE PARK - Boosted by a 1-2 finish in the girls 100 meter dash and wins in two sprint relays, the Oakleaf High girls track team took top honors at the Ridgeview High Panther Track Invitational while the boys were fueled by a state's best triple jump by Melvin Briley and a 1-2 in the long jump with Briley and teammate Anthony Norris to win the boys team title.

Oakleaf's girls scored 114 points to beat Fleming Island's 102.5 points as runnerup with Ridgeview third at 88.5.

For the boys, Oakleaf ran away with 176.5 team points beating Ridgeview's runnerup 113 points and Fleming Island's 74.5 for third.

Briley, nationally ranked in the top five of boys triple jumpers over the summer and track preseason, cranked out a 47 foot, 2.25 inch leap to win handily over Middleburg's Marcus Floyd's 44'-5.5" leap.

Briley long jumped 21'-4" to win with Norris second at 20'-8.5" for the 1-2 finish in that event.

For the girls, senior Jaqueline Thomas and sophomore Tahja Peoples went 1-2 in the 100 in 13.33 and 13.34 to edge Clay's Erykah Murray's 13.49 in one of the closer contests of the night.

Oakleaf's girls got wins in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay events for more team points.

In a return to the track, Oakleaf distance runner Briana Olazabal bested the 800 field with a 2:36.75 split edging Jordan Mae Detwiler of Fleming Island. The duo were familiar with each from junior high days at Oakleaf Junior High and Lakeside Junior High where both shared exciting county races against each other.
