OAKLEAF - Oakleaf High pitcher Justin Wagers kept control from the mound of the Orange Park High batting lineup, then punched two RBI singles; one in the first inning, the other in the fourth, to score a 5-0 win over the Raiders on Tues., Feb. 21, at Oakleaf High School.
Oakleaf had multiple baserunners left on base during the contest with a single run scored in the first inning coming off a Wager single that scored Monte Stevens from third. Stevens walked then stole second and third to set up the scoring hit.
Two flyouts and a strikeout to Ty Andrews left Wagers stuck at third base.
In the second inning, Wager whiffed three Raider batters after a walk put Tyler Childress on base.
In the second inning, Raider pitcher Hunter Hackney walked Tristan Adams then gave up a single to Zach Coon, but Hackney hung tough and got two flyouts; one a brillian diving stab from centerfielder Bryson Wyche, and a strikeout to Stevens to end the threat.
Wager got three groundouts in his work off the mound with third baseman Keegan Barrs scooping up two of the three bouncing balls.
In the bottom of the third, Wager singled again, stole second and moved on a single to Chris Mauloni that came with a walk to Andrews. Coon answered with a two-run single to put the score at 3-0.
