Fleming Island over Oakleaf for girls title

GREEN COVE SPRINGS - At the Clay High Christmas tournament on the girls side, Fleming Island advanced to their championship win over Oakleaf with a 49-30 win over Orange Park followed by a . 61-40 win over Middleburg in round two.

Top scorers for Fleming Island were Molly Ragle with 12 points and Malory Sinsel with 11 (Three 3-ptrs). Orange Park was led by Rios’ 18 points.

Fleming Island sisters Clare and Molly Ragle wound up lead scorers for the Golden Eagles against Oakleaf with Clare Ragel scoring 14 with four 3-ptrs and Molly Ragle adding 12 with 3 3-ptrs. Guard Tia Robinson had 11 assists with two steals.

Against Middleburg, Robinson was lead scorer with 23 points with Lizzie Labas adding 16 and Molly Ragle hitting for 11.

For the Broncos against 8A-Fleming Island, freshman Britany Range was top scorer with 13 points with two 3-ptrs with the Roney sisters, Hannah and Mallory, both adding 10 points. Range led with 10 rebounds for the Lady Broncos.

Middleburg defeated 8A-Creekside, in a tussle with Fleming Island for the top of district 4-8A, behind 19 points by Range, 15 by Hannah Roney and 12 by Mallory Roney.

For Oakleaf, who had come off a big region win over Robert E. Lee and a close 38-36 loss to Raines High prior to the Christmas break, the round one game was a 51-29 win over Keystone Heights followed by a 52-38 win over Clay High.

In consolations, Orange Park would get a big upset win over Creekside, who was leading the district 4-8A lineup prior to the tournament, and face off against Bishop Snyder for third place.

Bishop Snyder lost their first round game to Clay 66-29 before beating Keystone Heights 54-28 in the consolation semifinal.
