GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Buoyed by region titles from Darling Hudson, Ashleigh Dean, Erykah Murray and Carlie McRae, Clay High’s girls weightlift team dominated the Region 3-1A championships Saturday at Clay High and will send eight lifters to the Feb. 2-3 at Belleview High School. Orange Park will send one lifter, Sumer Powell, w hile Ridgeview will send Naja Hall.
Leading the way for the Blue Devils, Murray, a senior, blasted the field in the 169 pound weight class with an 80 pound deficit between her 375 pound total off a 185 bench press and a 190 clean and jerk to runnerup Sierra McGee of Baker County who totaled just 245 pounds.
Murray, who equaled her district winning total from last week, placed 10th last year at the Class 1A championships with a 285 total. Murray is top-rated in the state at 169.
Dean, a senior who finished third last year at 129 with a 305 total, upped the ante there with a 330 total for the region title with a bench press of 160 and a clean and jerk of 170. Dean is top-rated in the state at 129.
Hudson, a senior at 110 pounds, won by five pounds with her 225 total over Madison Haller of Baker County who bested Hudson the bench but fell 15 pounds short on the clean and jerk.
At 139 pounds, McRae, a junior, won by 15 pounds over Lani Foster of Baker County with a 305 total. Both lifters tied off the bench press with McRae able to clean and jerk 165 and Foster clearing 150, but failing at 160. McRae is top rated in the state at 139.
Also heading to state for Clay are Hudson, 10th at 110; Katie James, sixth at 119; Peters Kamerin, eighth at 119; Brooke Berger, eighth at 129, and Jade Berger, 14th at 154.
Finishing in the top six for individual weight classes were, Sereniti Forkey and Sierra Forkey, second and fourth at 101 pounds with Ridgeview’s Alaina Michalczyk and Vishwa Patel taking fifth and sixth; at 110, Orange Park’s Carrington Robinson and Emma Hashtak finishing third and fourth with Ridgeview’s Emma Bonfacio taking sixth; at 119, Clay’s Katie James and Peters Kamerin taking second and third with Ridgeview’s Aysia Hill taking fourth; at 129, Clay’s Brooke Berger at third and Ridgeview’s Alyssa Snyder at fifth; at 139, Jayla Hall of Ridgeview at fifth; at 154, Jade Berger of Clay took second with Ridgeview’s Alexis Bailey third; at 183, Orange Park’s Sumer Powell finished second with Ridgeview’s Savannah Warren third and Xaviana Suarez sixth; at 199, Ridgeview’ Grier Burrows took third and, at unlimited, Ridgeview’s Naja Hall finsihed third with Clay’s Madilyn Rosetti fifth and Ridgeview’s Sidney Porter sixth.
In region 3-2A, held at Flagler Palm Coast High School, Fleming Island and Middleburg had top lifters finishing in second place in their respective weight divisions with hopes of having totals worthy of a state meet invite. Spruce Creek High dominate the meet with five first place finishes with New Smyrna Beach and Bartram Trail each grabbing titles.
Tops for Middleburg were Johnourdes Pena at 154 with a second place finish just five pounds off leader Savannah Parker of Bartram Trail who totaled 315 pounds and Payton Mahon in the unlimited class who finished second with her 330 total.
Fleming Island got a second place finish from Serton Mikayla at 169. Senior topped the trio in bench press with a 180 total but hit 155 on the clean and jerk on her final lift as Mikayla and Johnson both cleared 160. Johnson missed an attempt at 165.
Lifters in the top six were, at 101, Oakleaf’s Cristine Gonzales, sixth; at 119, Middleburg’s Emma Weiskopf, fourth, and Fleming Island’s Abigayle Smith, sixth; at 139, Middleburg’ Neva Clinkscale, third; at 154, Oakleaf’s Lexi Perez, third; at 169, Fleming Island’s Destiny McGinn, sixth; at 199, Oakleaf’s Korpo Sumo and Kenyiah Malloy, fifth and sixth, and, at unlimited, Fleming Island’s Tiara Peters took sixth.

Editors note: Due to weather that postponed one region meet, the 2A girls weightlift state meet qualifiers were not available at press time.
